General.... out of curiousity, what was your actual rank upon discharge from the Corps. I am a medically retired (wounds) officer. A good friend that I served w/ Vietnam just retired as a Lt. General and was Commanding General of the III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Welcome to the Rx Lt. Dan. The day I was discharged I was also eligible for E5. I chose to go ahead with the process and get the discharge over with. My father-in-law had passed and had a farm that needed my help to keep afloat. I actually was released an E4, but I could have gotten the promotion to E5 had I requested. It made no difference at the time, except I was on a good pace in my carreer. I would have been an E5 at 4 years. That's not bad.

General,

Buck Sgts and the Gunny ran any Marine line outfit. Any boot officer that didn't realize the real chain of command in a combat situation didn't last too long. My cousin retired as an E-9, Master Gunny w/ the bursting bomb in the center.

Semper Fi,

Dan
